Matchless in Match Play: Poulter Delivers under Pressure to Win the Volvo World Match Play Title

Cobra Tour Profesional Ian Poulter beat Luke Donald 2 and 1 in the Volvo Match Play Championship, proving again that he is one of the world’s best in the match play format.

Ian became the first player to win both Match play titles on either side of the Atlantic – having won the Accenture Match Play event in Arizona last year.

Displaying his legendary grit and determination throughout the week, Ian played 108 holes in six fiercely contested matches.  Along the way he defeated the #1 and #2 ranked players in the world and displayed heroic comebacks in his semi-final and quarter final against Nicolas Colsaerts and Francesco Molinari.

Poulter relied on a stable of Cobra products throughout the week to help produce his late round birdies.  His bag included:

  • Driver:White ZL Driver 9.5 | neutral position | Fujikura 6.0 Motore Speeder X flex shaft
  • Utility: Baffler Rail 2/H | Matrix Radix 8X Hybrid
  • Irons:Cobra Pro CB (4-7) | Dynamic Gold X100
  • Irons:Cobra Pro MB (8-pw) | Dynamic Gold X100

Poulter, who with the win moves up the #14 in the Official World Golf Rankings, had some extra special motivation the eve of the Championship match, as his son Luke celebrated his 7th birthday.

This was Ian’s 11th European Tour title and his third victory in Spain following the 2004 Volvo Masters and the 2006 Madrid Golf Masters.

On another note, this is the last week for fans to enter in the “Stick It and Rip It” Sweepstakes for  a chance to caddy for Ian Poulter.  Be sure to register here: for your chance at great prizes.
